Trapdoor Theatre School

Summer School at Trapdoor has to be one of our favourite  - and most exhausting - weeks of the year. An entire show is cast, rehearsed and performed in just 5 days, usually with a cast of over 60 children.

A preliminary meeting is held a week before we begin, when auditions are held and the cast get to know each other. Scripts are sent out and the company join us at The Royal Hippodrome from Monday to Friday.

Friday sees the cast complete a tech and dress rehearsal during the day followed by a full scale performance in the evening.

Summer School is a brilliant opportunity for any youngster who is interested in performing to really get to grips with being part of a musical theatre show and follow its creative twists and turns from script to stage. The shows are produced to a very high standard, with full costume, lighting and sound. It is a truly intensive, full-on experience for those involved and it is so lovely seeing the children flourish both on and off stage during the week. Our Summer School productions have received rave reviews and we are very proud of what the children achieve in such a short space of time.
